Dzukou Valley

  • The Dzukou Valley or the Valley of flowers in Manipur reported a major wildfire few days ago.
  • The 80-90-sq km green valley, spread across northern Manipur and southern Nagaland, has been prone to forest fires for decades.
  • It is home to rare and endangered birds — the large pheasant-like Blyth’s Tragopan (Nagaland’s state bird, indigenous to the area), the Rufous-necked Hornbill, the Dark-rumped Swift etc. The endangered Hoolock Gibbon is also found here.
  • The elusive Asiatic golden cat and marbled cat, were also spotted here in 2019.
