National Broadband Mission
The government recently announced the National Broadband Mission, a transformative programme which aims to provide broadband access to all villages in the country by 2022.
Salient Features of the Mission
- Broadband access to all villages by 2022.
- Incremental 30 lakh route km of Optical Fiber Cable to be laid; increasing tower density from 0.42 to 1 tower per thousand of population by 2024.
- 70% of mobile towers to be fiberised in next few years as against the current 30%.
- Creation of a digital fiber map of the digital communications network and infrastructure, including Optical Fiber Cables and towers, across the country.
