Squalus Hima
- At Sakthikulangara fishing harbour in Kerala, scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) recently discovered a new species of deep-water dogfish shark, named Squalus hima.
- Spurdogs, the genus to which this new species belongs, are known for their smooth spines on dorsal fins and are found in various marine environments worldwide.
- The discovery has implications for conservation, particularly because dogfish sharks are targeted for their meat, fins, and liver oil, with the latter being of special interest to the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries for its squalene ....
