Relevance
- Doctrine of Eminent Domain: According to this principle, the power to acquire private property for public use is the attribute of sovereignty and essential to the existence of a government. The principle is upheld by the Supreme Court of India in Ram Chand vs. Union of India (1994).
- Protecting Land Reform and Social Welfare: In a country where land distribution was highly skewed and society is hierarchical, the ninth schedule abolishes Zamindari and advances land distribution. The Schedule was used to facilitate progressive policy to advance social justice.
