Suggestions for Delimitation Reforms
- Delimitation provisions of Articles 82 (Delimitation Commission) & 327 (related to constituencies) and related Articles are not specific. Thus, principles governing the procedure for periodic delimitation should be enriched.
- Appoint the academicians such as political scientists, social workers, pathologist and NGOs as co-opted members of delimitation commission.
- Provide for strict procedures and guidelines to ensure that the administrative process of delimitation does not become liable to political interference.
- Judicial review should be allowed in cases where erroneous process is found in delimitation of constituency.
- The seats in Lok Sabha and State Assembly should be increased according to the population ratio.
