Compressed Biogas (CBG): Role in Energy Security and Emission Reduction
Potential and Status
- Estimated Potential: With a capacity to produce 370 MMT of biomanure, India's estimated CBG potential from diverse sources is close to 62 MMT.
- Sources of Production: The sources of production for CBG include agricultural residue, municipal solid waste, sugarcane press mud, distillery wasted wash, cow manure, and sewage treatment plant waste.
- Possible Sources: In addition to these waste streams, biogas can also be produced by industrial Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) that handle organic waste. Examples of these waste streams include rotten vegetables, dairy plants, chicken/poultry litter, food trash, horticultural waste, and forestry residues.
