​New Plant Species Discovered in Ambagad Forest

  • In August 2024, scientists discovered a new species of the Cleistanthus collinus plant, named Cleistanthus deekshabhoomiana, during a taxonomic field exploration in Ambagad forest, Bhandara district.
  • Cleistanthus deekshabhoomiana is the 9th Cleistanthus collinus species found in India and the 6th that is endemic to the country. It has been named after Deekshabhoomi, an important heritage site in Nagpur.
