NEOWISE
- On 8th August, 2024, NASA shut down NEOWISE asteroid hunter after almost 15 years in space.
- NEOWISE, originally launched as WISE in 2009, was a NASA space telescope designed to study faraway objects in the universe by detecting infrared light.
- It was later repurposed to detect near-Earth objects, such as asteroids and comets, after its first mission ended.
- Over its extended mission, NEOWISE cataloged more than 44,000 objects in the solar system.
