Comment on the status of Tribal education in India and suggest measure for improvement.

Answer: With a population of more than 10.2 crores, India has the single largest tribal population in the world. This constitutes 8.6 per cent of the total population of the country (Census of India, 2011).

Status of Tribal Education in India

  • Low Literacy Level: As per census 2011 literacy rate of STs is 59% which is too low than the national average of 73.36%.
  • Interstate disparity: Wide Interstate disparity exists across the states e.g. in Mizoram and Lakshadweep STs literacy is more than 91% whereas in Andhra Pradesh ....
