World Press Freedom Index 2024
The World Press Freedom Index 2024 was released in May 2024 by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), an international non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the right to freedom of information.
- The index ranks 180 countries based on their journalistic freedom, reporting, and media operations.
- Norway topped the list with the global score of 91.89. It is followed by Denmark (89.60) and Sweden (88.32).
- India ranked 159th among 180 countries, improving slightly from 161st in 2023.
- Despite the improvement in ranking, India’s score declined from 36.62 to 31.28, keeping it in the very serious category.
