Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024
In April 2025, the Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which seeks to modify the Waqf Act, 1995 to enhance the governance of Waqf properties.
About the Bill
- The revised bill incorporates recommendations from the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
- Previous amendments (2013) were based on suggestions from the High-Level Committee led by Justice (Retd.) Rajinder Sachar and the JPC report.
Key Provisions of the Bill
- Ensures representation of Muslim women and Muslim OBCs in Waqf management through the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards.
- Introduces a provision allowing appeals on tribunal decisions in the High Court within 90 days.
