WMO’s State of the Global Climate 2024 Report

On 19th March 2025, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its State of the Global Climate 2024 report, revealing alarming increases in greenhouse gas concentrations and global temperatures.

Rising Greenhouse Gas Levels

  • Along with CO₂, other greenhouse gases (GHGs) like methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) also reached record levels.
  • These emissions contributed to record-breaking temperatures in 2024, further intensified by El Niño.
  • Global mean surface temperature was 1.55°C above pre-industrial levels, marking the first time the annual average crossed the 1.5°C threshold set by the Paris Agreement.
