UNESCO’s Tentative World Heritage Sites List
To recognize India’s rich architectural and traditional art, six new sites from Madhya Pradesh were added to UNESCO’s Tentative World Heritage Sites List in March 2024.
Newly Added Sites
- Gwalior Fort – Established by Rajput warrior Suraj Sen in the 6th century AD.
- Dhamnar Caves – Located in Dhamnar village, Mandsaur district.
- Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhojpur – A Shiva temple located 28 km from Bhopal, constructed by Raja Bhoj (1010-1053 AD). It is also known as the ‘Somnath of the East’ due to its grand architecture.
- Rock Art Site of the Chambal Valley – The largest concentration of rock art sites ....
