UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025

In December 2024, the Union Home Minister and Prime Minister of India inaugurated the UN International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025.

About IYC 2025

  • The UN General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives in June 2024.
  • The theme for the year is "Cooperatives Build a Better World."

Cooperatives in India

  • The cooperative movement in India began with the Cooperative Credit Societies Act of 1904.
  • Today, India has 27% of the world's cooperatives, with 20% of its population involved in them.
  • The key sectors where cooperatives play a major role include housing, dairy, and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies ....
