Smart Cities Mission Extended
In July 2024, the Smart Cities Mission (SCM), launched in 2015, was been extended till March 31, 2025, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Key Objectives
- Enhancing urban infrastructure & sustainability.
- Improving quality of life through smart solutions.
- Driving economic & social growth via urban development.
- Creating replicable models for inclusive urbanization.
Funding & Implementation
- Centrally Sponsored Scheme:
- Rs. 100 crore per city per year from the Union Government.
- Matching funds from States/Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
- Additional Funding Sources:
- Finance Commission grants, municipal bonds, government programs.
- City Selection Process:
- Stage 1 – Intra-state shortlisting.
- Stage 2 – City Challenge competition.
- Implementation by Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs):
- 50:50 equity shareholding ....
