Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS)
In March 2024, the government has launched several initiatives to expand and modernize PACS, enhancing their role in agriculture and rural finance.
Key Initiatives
- 500 new PACS to build godowns & agricultural infrastructure.
- Computerization of 18,000 PACS under the Centrally Sponsored PACS Computerization Project, aiming to digitize 63,000 functional PACS for efficiency, transparency, and reduced transaction costs.
- Launch of the National Cooperative Database (NCD) to provide comprehensive cooperative data across states and UTs.
Role of PACS
- Grassroot institutions under the State Cooperative Societies Act.
- Disburse short-term credit, distribute agricultural inputs, and promote financial inclusion.
- Account for 41% of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, benefiting ....
