National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds

The Union Cabinet, in October 2024, has approved the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds) 2024-31 to boost domestic edible oil production and reduce import dependence.

Key Targets & Initiatives

  • Production Goals (by 2030-31)
  • Oilseeds: 69.7 million tonnes
  • Edible Oil: 25.45 million tonnes
  • Additional 40 lakh hectares under intercropping & diversification.

Focus Crops

  • Major Oilseeds: Rapeseed-mustard, groundnut, soybean, sunflower.
  • Improved Extraction: Cottonseed, rice bran, tree-borne oils.

Key Features

  • SATHI Portal for seed traceability.
  • 600 Value Chain Clusters covering 10 lakh hectares annually.
  • High-yield seed varieties using genome editing.
