India’s Dairy Cooperative Sector
In September 2024, the Ministry of Cooperation has launched a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for ‘White Revolution 2.0’ to boost India's dairy cooperatives.
Key Objectives
- Increase milk procurement by 50% in five years.
- Target: 1,000 lakh kg/day by 2029.
- Empower women farmers and enhance dairy infrastructure under NPDD 2.0.
- Boost dairy exports via indigenous production of testing equipment & bulk milk collection.
Financial inclusion:
- ‘Cooperation among Cooperatives’ initiative.
- Interest-free cash credit via RuPay-KCC & micro-ATMs for dairy societies.
Historical Context: White Revolution & Operation Flood
- Led by NDDB & Dr. Verghese Kurien (1970-1996).
- Key Achievements:
- Expanded milk production and developed dairy cooperatives.
