India Commissions Three Indigenous Naval Vessels

On January 15, 2025, the Indian Navy achieved a remarkable milestone with the commissioning of three frontline platforms on the same day.

  • This historic event marked the first tri-commissioning of such advanced vessels in the Navy's history.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed this achievement as a significant step towards realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and dedicated the three vessels to the nation.

The commissioned vessels include:

INS Nilgiri (Project 17A)

  • Role: Multi-mission stealth frigate
  • Weapons: Surface-to-surface missiles, MRSAMs, 76mm gun
  • Operations: Anti-air, surface & submarine warfare
  • Timeline: Laid (2017), Launched (2019), Sea Trials (2023)
