Inauguration of Nalanda University Campus
On June 19, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Nalanda University Campus in Rajgir, Bihar.
- Nalanda University was founded in 427 CE by Gupta Emperor Kumaragupta in the early 5th century and flourished for 600 years until the 12th century.
- Its ruins were discovered by Francis Buchanan in 1812, and it was identified as the esteemed Nalanda University by Alexander Cunningham in 1861.
- In September 2014, Nalanda University welcomed its first batch of students after a gap of nearly eight centuries.
- The Nalanda University Bill, 2010, was introduced in Rajya Sabha on August 12, 2010.
