COP16 – Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Colombia
The 16th Conference of Parties (COP-16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity was held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 - November 1, 2024.
- The primary objective of the conference was to advance the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), particularly the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
- The convention follows the 2022 Montreal agreement, where countries pledged to protect 30% of land and water by 2030 (‘30-by-30 Agreement’).
Outcomes of Biodiversity COP16
- Cali Fund: Created to ensure fair sharing of benefits from digital sequence information on genetic resources, focusing on Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women, and youth.
