West Bengal State Legislative Council
The West Bengal Assembly votes to establish a Legislative Council. The Legislative Council (LC) is the state's upper chamber, and it, like the Rajya Sabha, is a permanent body.
Constitutional and Legal Aspect of Legislative Council (LC)
- Article 169 of the Constitution empowers the Legislative Assembly to create or abolish a Legislative Council by passing a resolution.
- Under Article 171, LC cannot have more than one-third of the number of MLAs in the state, and not less than 40 members.
