The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) recently celebrated its centennial.
Constitutional and Legal Aspect of PAC
- Article 148 provides for an independent office of CAG. He is the head of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. The President lays these reports before both the Houses of Parliament. After this, the Public Accounts Committee examines them and reports its findings to the Parliament.
- It is the oldest Parliamentary Committee and was first constituted in 1921 under the provisions of the Government of India Act of 1919 (in the wake of the Montague-Chelmsford Reforms).
