Collegium System
Recently, the Supreme Court ordered the government to clarify the status of 55 Collegium recommendations for judicial appointments to various High Courts.
Constitutional Aspect of Collegium System
- Constitution under Article 124 states that, the President shall make SC Judges appointments after consulting with the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and other SC and HC judges as he considers necessary.
- While for HC judges appointment President (under Article 217) should consult the CJI, Governor, and Chief Justice of the High Court concerned.
