​Exploring the Ocean Depth with C-Bot

  • According to the 'primordial soup' hypothesis, the oceans of the early Earth, rich in essential chemicals and minerals, provided the perfect environment for the formation of organic molecules. Life originated in the oceans about four billion years ago under these conditions.
  • The Goa-based CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has launched an autonomous 'underwater vehicle' called C-bot, an advanced robot to monitor coral reefs.
  • This vehicle can go up to a depth of 200 meters under water and scan the depths of the Indian Ocean. It will help in monitoring coral reefs in the ocean.
