Innovative Science Projects to Preserve Tribal Culture
- India has the second largest tribal population in the world.
- According to the 2011 census, 8.9% of India's population is classified as tribal.
- The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Science and Technology are supporting science projects to preserve the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities.
- The Department of Science and Technology is engaged in advanced science projects such as remote sensing, geographic information system and 3D modeling for heritage site assessment, monitoring and awareness building with the aim of protecting and preserving cultural heritage sites associated with tribal communities.
