UNFCCC
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) or Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the first multilateral legal instrument on climate change, by consensus.
- The World Summit on Sustainable Development (Rio +10) was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2002 as a follow-up. The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), often known as the Rio Earth Summit 2012, was held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012.
