Global Environment Facility (GEF)
Since the Convention's entry into effect in 1994, it has operated as the financial mechanism's operating entity. It administers two funds:
- The Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), which was established in 2001 to fund projects in the areas of adaptation, technology transfer, and capacity building, as well as energy, transportation, industry, agriculture, forestry, and waste management, as well as economic diversification.
- The Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) was established to finance a work programme to help Least Developed Country Parties (LDCs) prepare and implement national adaptation action plans (NAPAs).
