National Green Tribunal Act, 2010

The National Green Tribunal is a specialised body established under the act to deal with cases connected to environmental preservation and the conservation of forests and other natural resources in an effective and timely manner.

  • India became the third country in the world, after Australia and New Zealand, to establish a specialised environmental tribunal, and the first developing country to do so with the founding of the NGT.
  • The NGT Act also provides a procedure for a penalty for non-compliance: Imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, " Fine which may extend to ten crore rupees, and " ....
