Commission for Air Quality Management
Both Houses of Parliament recently enacted the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Bill, 2021, which replaced the Ordinance that was promulgated in April 2021.
Key Highlights of the Bill
- CAQM Authority: The CAQM will be the exclusive authority having jurisdiction over the topics outlined in the Bill (such as air quality management). In the event of a conflict, the Commission's directives will take precedence over orders from state governments, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), state PCBs, and state-level statutory authorities.
- Composition: The Commission will be chaired by a Joint Secretary ....
