About Millets

Millets are a group of small-seeded grasses, widely grown as cereal crops or grains for human food and as fodder.

They are classified into Major Millets and Minor Millets based on their grain size.

  • Major Millets: Sorgum (jowar), Pearl Millet (bajra), Finger millet (ragi)
  • Minor Millets: foxtail, little, kodo, proso and barnyard millet
  • Pseudo Millets: Amaranth (Rajgira) and Buckwheat (Kuttu). These are not part of the botanical family to which 'true' grains belong; however, they are nutritionally similar and used in similar ....
