Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2021
The Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was just introduced in the Lok Sabha on 16th December 2021.
The modifications aim to decriminalise certain elements and encourage more foreign investment in the biological resource chain, including research, patenting, and commercialization, without jeopardising national security.
Proposed Amendments
- Simplify the Research Process: The revisions simplify the patenting process for Indian scholars in order to boost patenting. Regional patenting centres will be established around the country to help with this.
- Boosting the Indian Medical System: It aims to boost the "Indian system of medicine" by facilitating fast-tracking research, the patent application procedure, and the transfer ....
