  • Operable Reactors: 22 reactors, totalling 6780 MWe
  • Reactors Under Construction: 7 reactors, totalling 5,398 Mwe
  • Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs): 18
  • Light Water Reactors (LWRs): 4
  • Reactors Shutdown: 1 reactor, 135 MWe
  • Import/Export Balance: 0.1 TWh net export (9.5 TWh imports; 9.6 TWh exports)
  • Total Consumption: 1,207 TWh
  • Per Capita Consumption: ~900 kWh

State-Wise Nuclear Power Plants

Presently, India has 22 operating reactors in the following six states:

  1. Maharashtra: Tarapur
  2. Rajasthan: Rawatbhata
  3. Uttar Pradesh: Narora
  4. Gujarat: Kakrapar
  5. Karnataka: Kaiga
  6. Tamil Nadu: Kalpakkam and Kudankulam

Fuel Requirements

  • 700 MW PHWR: 125 tons of UO2 annually (at 85% capacity factor)
  • 1000 MW LWR: 25 tons of low enriched uranium annually ....
