Global Disruption in Microsoft Cloud Services
In July 2024, a major disruption in Microsoft Corporation’s cloud services, primarily due to a faulty software update and configuration changes in Azure, caused widespread service outages across various sectors globally, including significant impacts in India.
What Caused the Outage?
- Microsoft identified a configuration change in a portion of its Azure backend workloads as the preliminary cause of the disruption. This change led to connectivity failures affecting Microsoft 365 services.
- A malfunction in a software update for Windows systems issued by CrowdStrike, particularly in their Falcon product, caused widespread system downtimes.
