DRDO Unveils ‘Zorawar’ Light Tank
On 6th July, 2024, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), unveiled the ‘Zorawar’ Light Tank, designed to boost the Indian armed forces' operational capabilities, especially in high-altitude regions.
- The tank is named in honour of General Zorawar Singh, a renowned General of the Dogra Dynasty known for his conquests in Ladakh and Baltistan.
Development and Purpose
- The need for a light tank arose during the Galwan Valley standoff, highlighting the importance of mobility and firepower in high-altitude terrains. Zorawar is a response to Chinese Type 15 Light Tanks deployed in Ladakh.
