Private Sector Investment in Agriculture
Need
- Economic Liberalisation: In contrast to other areas where the private sector has increased its stake, the rate of increase in the private sector's share of total agriculture investment under the post-reform regime has been slower than it was during the pre-reform period during the early 1990s.
- More Effective: To close the investment gap in agriculture, the government must establish favourable policy and development support environments for the private sector (including domestic and foreign agri-business investors). The efficiency of capital usage tends to increase with increased private investment in agriculture.
