National River Linking Project
Significance
- Water Crisis: The plan calls for rerouting extra water from plains to deficit regions in order to address the problem of water scarcity.
- Hydropower Generation: This project can produce roughly 34000 MW of electricity through the construction of dams and reservoirs.
- Weather Flow Augmentation: To maintain a minimum water flow in rivers during dry weather, excess water stored in reservoirs can be discharged.
- Agriculture: Because India's farming industry is so dependent on the monsoon, the initiative intends to address the problem of inadequate irrigation facilities in areas with a water shortage.
