UMMID and NIDAN

  • UMMID (Unique methods of management and treatment of inherited disorders) is a Department of Biotechnology initiative aimed at creating awareness regarding genetic disorders amongst clinicians, layman and establishing molecular diagnostics in hospitals around the country.
  • It works on 3 levels –
      1. Establishing NIDAN (National Inherited Diseases Administration) Kendras to provide counselling, prenatal testing and diagnosis, management, and multidisciplinary care in Government Hospitals wherein the influx of patients is more.
      2. Producing skilled clinicians in Human Genetics.
      3. Facilitating screening of pregnant women and new born babies for inherited genetic diseases in hospitals at aspirational districts.
