Rare Diseases
- A Draft National Policy for Rare Diseases has been prepared by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The draft policy aims for lowering the incidence of rare diseases based on an integrated preventive strategy encompassing awareness generation and screening programmes;
- As evident from its name, Rare diseases are the one that affect a small group of population. Diseases like Haemophilia, Thalassemia, Sickle-cell Anemia etc. are classified as rare diseases.
- The diseases are classified into 3 categories, identified by experts based on clinical experience. The government would provide financial aid uptoRs. 15 lakh for treatment of Group 1 disease (one time curative treatment) ....
