Biotechnology
The phrase ‘bio-technology’ was coined by the Hungarian engineer “Karl Ereky” in 1919 but this term has been used by humans since ancient times for producing food. In biological literature, Biotechnology is knowledge based on biology, particularly when used in agriculture, food science, and medicine.
- The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is a constituent part, under the Ministry of Science and Technology accountable for supervising growth/development and commercialisation in the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. It was set up in 1986.
- The Mission and Vision of the Department is:
