Extreme Heatwaves and Rainfall Increase in India
A recent study, titled ‘Managing Monsoons in a Warming Climate’ (released on 6th August 2024) indicates that nearly 84% of Indian districts are facing extreme heatwaves, while 70% are experiencing increased frequency and intensity of extreme rainfall events during the monsoon.
Key Findings
- Extreme Heatwaves: The study reveals that the number of heatwave days from March to September has increased fifteen-fold between 1993 and 2022, with extreme heatwave days rising nineteen-fold in the past decade.
