What is the Importance of CSAT in Prelims?

There are two 200-marks papers in the Civil Services Preliminary Exam (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II). The questions will be of the objective, multiple-choice variety. The Prelims score will only be used to determine eligibility for the Main exam; it will not be used to determine final ranking.

  • Regardless of how well you did on GS Paper 1, you must receive at least 66 out of 200 in CSAT (GS Paper 2) to pass the IAS Prelims.
  • You might be misled if you believe that receiving 66 out of a possible 200 marks on the CSAT is not a huge concern.
  • Many candidates, in our experience, become anxious after the exam.
  • Therefore, prepare well for the CSAT paper. This will enhance chances of success in the prelims.
