Plateau
A plateau is a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side. Plateaus occur on every continent and take up a third of the Earths land.
- They are one of the four major landforms, along with mountains, plains, and hills.
Classification of Plateaus
A. On the basis of Mode of Formation
- Plateaus formed by Running Water: Many parts of the Deccan of India (Kaimur Plateau, Rewa Plateau, Rohtas Plateau, Bhander Plateau), Brazilian Plateau, etc.
- Plateaus formed by Glacial Erosion: Plateau of Greenland and Antarctica, Garhwal Plateau etc.
- Plateaus formed by Glacial Deposition: Russian Plateau, Plateau ....
