- Arno Penzias, a German-born American physicist and radio astronomer, is known as the 'smoking gun proof' of the Big Bang theory.
- Penzias and his colleague Robert Woodrow Wilson discovered the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation in 1965 while working at Bell Labs in New Jersey.
