Right to Repair
The Right to Repair campaign demands that manufacturers provide users with genuine parts so that, if they so want, they may have their equipment fixed by independent shops as well.
- Several nations, including the US, the UK, and the EU, recognise it.
- Issues with Right to Repair: Large Tech companies including Apple, Tesla, etc. argued that it’ll open their intellectual property to third party repair services or amateur repairers could jeopardise safety and security of their devices.
- Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution unveiled ‘right to repair’ portal on occasion of National Consumer Day (December 24).
