Relativistic Jet
Relativistic jets are beams of plasma launched in the vicinity of accreting SMBHs (Super-Massive Black Holes).
- Regarding the genesis of jet power, there are two opposing hypotheses.
- The first hypothesis states that jets are propelled either solely by electromagnetic processes or as a result of magnetohydrodynamic processes at the inner regions of the accretion disc. Jets are powered by the gravitational energy of accreting matter that travels towards the black hole.
- The relativistic motion of plasma in jets leads to many effects of the special theory of relativity including relativistic boosting, temporal dilution, and apparent superluminal movements. The second theory ....
