Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)

Its goal is to promote the science-policy interface for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, long-term human well-being, and sustainable development.

  • It was founded as an independent intergovernmental agency in 2012.
  • The IPBES now has 139 members, including India.
  • IPBES is not a part of the UN or a UN organisation, although the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) does offer secretariat services to the organisation, which is open to all UN members.
