Akshat Jain

Optional: Anthropology

The second rank holder Akshat Jain of IIT Guwahati, also hails from Rajasthan and has civil service officers in the family. The family comes from Tonk and his father, Dharam Chand Jain, is an IPS officer of 1991 batch who recently joined as a Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation. Akshat’s mother Simmi Jain is an IRS officer and is posted in Jaipur.

He chose Anthropology as optional because he found that this subject had a lot of application in governance and enjoyed reading and writing this subject.

He cleared UPSC in his second attempt. His first attempt at the Civil Service Examination was a month after he graduated in 2017. While Akshat could not clear the attempt, he says it was a great learning experience for him.

While Akshat did not attend any coaching classes for his General Studies paper, he says, “I cannot say that I spent ‘x’ number of hours each day preparing. Instead, I would chalk out the syllabus I wanted to complete each day and ensure that by the end of the day I had that done.” He emphasizes specially on preparation strategy. According to him, one should prepare his own strategy and practice previous years’ question papers.

He is looking forward to serving the people especially in healthcare and education.
