Scheme of Sugar Subsidy for Antyodya Anna Yojana (AAY)
- The scheme aims to provide access to sugar for the poorest of the poor, enhancing their diet with additional energy and contributing to improved health.
- The Central Government offers a subsidy of Rs. 18.50 per kg per month of sugar to AAY families in participating States.
- The extension of the scheme is expected to provide benefits exceeding Rs. 1850 crore during the 15th Finance Commission period (2020-21 to 2025-26) and is projected to benefit approximately 1.89 crores AAY families across the country.
