Eastern Mediterranean Pipeline

On 11th January, 2022, the US announced it no longer supported the Eastern Mediterranean (EastMed) natural gas pipeline on grounds of financial viability, environmental concerns and political tensions.

US described the project as a “primary source of tension” and something “destabilising” the region by putting Turkey and regional countries at loggerheads.

About EastMed Pipeline

  • It is a 1,900km natural gas pipeline project to connect the gas reserves of the eastern Mediterranean to Greece via Cyprus and Crete.
